Sail Light

The Sail Light takes inspiration from the graceful forms of boat sails catching the wind. It is made to exist both as a floor lamp and as a hanging light fixture, and the light output itself dictates that the piece is made to accentuate the beauty of a space rather than facilitating a task. The sails were made by securing spring steel rods between two layers of nylon fabric. The materials allow for movement, yet there is a structure due to the metal rods that enables the sails to capture a moment where they capture the wind. The sails converge in a wood disk that doubles as a house for the LED.
